In the latter half of the eighteenth century, the period embraced in this chapter, the Town of Paisley made more rapid and striking progress than in any previous period of its history. This statement applies not only to the increase of population and erection of dwellinghouses, and places of worship, and other public buildings, but also to the starting and rapid extension of new industries.
