There wasn't a centralized Poorhouse in Berwickshire, the poor of the parishes were housed in Alms Houses or Parochial Lodging Houses, which eventually became part of the Kelso Combination. These were locally administered rather than operating as statutory poorhouses under the central Board of Supervision. In 1846 a property was purchased by the Duns Parochial Board to be used as a parish poorhouse or almshouse.
