This volume contains the first portion (from A to L) of a Calendar of all the Lancashire and Cheshire and other Wills and Administrations proved at Chester during the years 1801 to 1810, both inclusive. As there were nearly 17,000 Wills proved in this period, it was found necessary to divide the Calendar into two parts. The Calendar forms a continuation of the Calendars of Wills commenced by the Society more than thirty years ago, the list having been brought down to the year 1800 by the publication, some ten years ago, of Volume XLV. Under the permission granted by the President of the Probate, Divorce and Admiralty Court to calendar the Wills at Chester up to a period of 100 years from date, the Wills for the ten years to 18 10 have recently become available and the calendar has been made at once, as it is believed that these lists of Wills have been the most generally useful and popular of all the Society's publications.
