The Register of Baptisms begins on i6th March 165 1, and continues to 31st October 1662, when it is blank to October 1672, Mr. John Stirling, minister, being by the civil authority with the rest of the ministers of the Presbyterian Judgement thrust from his charge, the children's names baptised by those of the Prelatick Judgment are not here recorded." The Register is continued to 15th July 1683, when " Let it be remembered that from the years 1683 to 1688, viz., 6th June, there was no Presbyterian minister settled in this paroch, and the name of these that were baptised or married by the prelatick incumbent are not here recorded, nor did we ever see any of their Registers of Mr. David Pearson's or Mr. Archibald Wilsoun's, who were both Prelatick ministers in Kilbarchan for several years.
Upon the i6th day of June we left the meeting house and took up the church 1689." Then follows the baptisms from the ordination of Mr. James Stirling, 6th June 1688 to 4th May 1699. After June 1700 the Register is a copy made in 1760 as appears from the following note:—" 1760. The old book from which this was copied having been badly kept, and a great deal of it quite loose and some of it lost, there was no name found from Feb. 28th 1756 to May 30th 1760.—W. M." The original is extant for 1740-60, but the copy is continued after 1760 as the principal Register.
