When, in the time of Henry VIII, the Marches were attached to their adjoining counties, this part was assigned to the county of Montgomery, of which it forms the extreme North Eastern angle. It is bounded on the south by the Severn, which divides it from the parishes of Criggion and Alberbury, and the diocese of Hereford; on the east by the river Vyrnwy, which separates it from Melverly; on the North by the parishes of Llandysilio and Llansantffraid, and on the west by those of Meifod and Guilsfield.
