The documents comprised in the present volume relate to the expedition of King Edward I. against Scotland in the year 1298, and to the battle of Falkirk, which was the principal event in that expedition. As a necessary introduction to these documents I desire to state, as clearly and as concisely as I can, the facts with which they stand connected.
